There’s no doubt that Sucker Punch Productions is a talented developer having previously delivered two stellar franchises. To see them do something so different and pull it off as well as they have, however, is masterful. Beautiful and deadly, Ghost of Tsushima is shaping up to be a real showcase for the PS4 and the studio. We still have a ways off before the game finally launches, but we’re excited to see what else Ghost of Tsushima has in store for us.
Delays are inevitable in the gaming industry. While this sometimes upsets players, it’s a necessary reality because a lot of work goes into game development, and it forces the choice of a compromised release or a slightly disappointing delay. October 24 is an interesting day, however, as not only 1 or 2 major games received delays, but 5 of the most anticipated games of 2020 have been pushed back, including The Last of Us
Combat will be another feature from Ghost of Tsushima that I’ll be looking forward to hopefully seeing at this year’s E3. There’s yet to be a modern game that takes on third-person cinematic samurai combat effectively. Some might argue that Nioh tried this to an extent but, in my opinion, it doesn’t really raise the bar in any sort of way. I’m hoping that players will be able to really take control of the way they play Ghost of Tsushima. What I mean by that is I want to be able to go into battles head-on or take things from a stealthier approach. I’ve had countless discussions in the past with other gamers about Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series missing a game that takes place in Japan, and that series is a good example of one that perfectly blends both action and stealth together. I hope that players will feel rewarded by approaching combat in Ghost of Tsushima however they see
After a few subpar releases, the series’ fifth entry marks a true return to form and is definitely worth playing if you enjoy combat-heavy games. As with previous Devil May Cry games, the story is a little lackluster in places, and Nero remains something of an acquired taste. Even so, its fantastic visuals and exciting combat are more than enough to tip the scale in the game’s fa
When Watch Dogs Legion was unveiled and it was revealed that there were several playable characters such as the granny assassin, it was a big deal for the franchise. Watch Dogs 2 wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but this showed real promise. Shortly after Sony’s delays were revealed, Ubisoft followed up with several delays of its own, including for Watch Dogs Legion . Ubisoft essentially explained that it was due to recent under-performances such as Breakpoint , which could have been caused by too many games releasing too closely together, so it chose to delay three games into the next fiscal y
Shortly after rumors began to circulate online, The Last of Us 2 director Neil Druckmann came forth and announced the delay. Considering its February 21 release date was just announced last month, this may have left a bad taste in some mouths, but Druckmann promises that it will be worth the wait and explains that the team just needed more time to ensure that it hit “Naughty Dog Quality.” The Last of Us 2 will now release on May 29, 2020, which is just a small three month w
While this premise and story are much different than anything Sucker Punch has worked on before, Nate Fox finds something romantic about feudal Japan and believes it to be a setting underused by western develop
Ghost of Tsushima ‘s delay is a little different in that its it is entirely dependent upon The Last of Us 2’ s. Reports indicate that, because of the aforementioned delay, Ghost of Tsushima was delayed further into 2020 to give the two big PS4 exclusives some breathing room, as it was supposed to launch sometime in early 2020 after TLOU 2 . It’s also worth mentioning that it did not yet have an official release date, so this may not be a traditional delay. There’s a possibility that the reports are wrong, but there’s a high chance that they aren’t. As of right now, Ghost of Tsushima does not have an official release d
We got to sit down with Sucker Punch Productions to see Ghost of Tsushima up close. Though it was the same demo shown at the conference, we did learn important new details. The game takes place in 1274 during the Mongols’ invasions of the island of Tsushima. You play as Jin Sekai, the last living samurai on the island. Having lost everything to the Mongols, Jin now fights for the common people as he tries to stave off the invasion.
There’s been an absence of serious stories revolving around samurai, and I so desperately want that gap to be filled by a game that not only features a gripping narrative, beautiful Japanese visuals, and bloody yet oh-so-satisfying combat, but one that also gives us a more personal look at the virtues and mentality of the soldiers during this riveting time in the country’s long history. We’ve already seen small glimpses hinting at all of these things in the game’s reveal trailer . I was initially more than apprehensive thinking about a Western developer tackling such demanding hopes, but Sucker Punch has proved to me that they can create games that are special and resonate with PlayStation’s most dedicated fans: there’s no doubt about that. The developer has had many years to really flesh this game out, and with Sony behind them, I trust they’re tackling this project with the utmost care it deser
